An evening on London RooftopsIt was a cloudy day in London, and getting dark already, as a little boy, roughly ten or eleven, finished cleaning the last chimney for the day. As he climbed out of the now-cleaner chimney, he looked around at his surroundings. From where he was on a Kensington rooftop, he could see Hyde Park, Piccadilly and in the distance, the houses of Parliament themselves, where all the rich toffs sit and discuss laws to make poor people poorer and rich people richer, the chimney sweep thought dryly to himself. Still, he thought, as he pulled out a packet of ciggaretts, he couldn't complain. He paused in the middle of lighting up his fag. Alright, maybe he could. Doing a job where recieving a bloody knee and a shilling in payment was a good day and dying would just be another bad day meant that there was a lot to complain about. But after what he'd been through... Smoke dogs, zombie children, mad, murderous tourney fighters... He'd seen his fair share of weird and downright scary things. Maybe wo

Desmond jumps, of course, because this is out of nowhere and dammit, Clay, when will you stop doing that, that sneaking up on me. He's considering stepping out of the other's reach and telling him to quit it, but when he brings his hazel eyes to the taller's face, he can't bring himself to do it. It's because of the childish sort of awe, there, glimmering in his eyes and the explanation for it meets Desmond's ears once Clay realizes he's looking.
"I haven't felt anything real, in the longest time," he says, and suddenly Desmond gets it, all the occasional touches (pats on his shoulders, hands resting lightly in the small of his back). It's so profoundly sad that he can't help but mumble, "that's alright, go ahead," as if it's the most normal thing in the world to
